Say no clearly
A direct answer with a reason is worth more to a partner than a slow yes followed by quiet rejection.
HS Ocean was started by people who had spent years on both sides of the insurance enquiry — buying it and generating it. The company exists because the handover between those two sides is almost always the weakest link, and almost never the thing anybody fixes.

Lead generation companies compete on volume because volume is easy to quote. An insurance sales team measures something else entirely: how many of today's enquiries were worth the time it took to work them. Those two numbers move independently, and the gap between them is where relationships break.
We built HS Ocean around the second number. In practice that means being slower to take on partners, clearer about the rules, more willing to close a line in a country than to dilute it, and considerably less exciting to talk about. It is a narrower business than it could be, on purpose.
It also means we are a poor fit for anybody who wants volume without questions. We would rather establish that on the first call than in the third month.

Written down, because principles that live only in somebody's head get negotiated away under commercial pressure.

02
Which partner and channel produced an enquiry travels with it. Hiding that only benefits a network with something to hide.

If a standard is not written down it is not a standard. Everything we enforce exists on paper before it is enforced.

Every relationship has one named contact who knows the history. Escalating should not mean starting the story again.
Partly because the people who started the company live here. Mostly because a company selling into six European markets needs a team that genuinely speaks to them, and Barcelona makes that unusually easy to build.
Being on the Mediterranean side of Europe also puts us in the same working day as Iberia, Italy and France without giving up an overlap with the north. In a business where an enquiry is worth less every hour it waits, that is not a small thing.
Small teams with defined remits. Partners and insurers deal with the team that owns their question rather than a general queue.
Owns demand relationships, the criteria we hold, getting connected and the review rhythm.
Owns partner review, briefing, approvals, feedback and settlement questions.
Owns the advertising standard, consent requirements, objections and data subject requests.
Owns the checks, the measures, monitoring and the records behind every enquiry.

We do not publish stock photographs with invented job titles. If you are running due diligence and need to know who owns a function, ask and you will speak to them directly.
Due diligence questions, reference requests and awkward questions about how we would handle a specific situation are all welcome. Ask before you commit, not after.
